The Houston Texans haven’t had a great 2022 season so far. And going into Thursday night, the team has their hands full internally before they even start to deal with the unbeaten Philadelphia Eagles on Thursday Night Football on Amazon Prime.

The already overwhelmed Texans are without Nico Collins, who is dealing with a groin injury. To make matters worse, a veteran wide receiver isn’t suiting up for the team Thursday night either as Brandin Cooks won’t play vs. the Eagles:

“Texans’ WR Brandin Cooks will not play tonight vs. the Eagles, per ESPN’s @WerderEdESPN,” tweeted ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter. “Cooks has missed practice for what the team has described as personal reasons. He had hoped to be traded to a playoff contender.”

Tuesday’s NFL trade deadline featured several big moves. A lot of big names went elsewhere, but Cooks wasn’t one of them. The ninth-year wide receiver joined the Texans two seasons ago but it hasn’t panned out well. Neither has the team, as they’ve gone 9-28-1 in Cooks’ time in Houston. Cooks’ trade request made sense, but he, however, received no such luck. In any event, it’s now a wonder if he’ll be playing again for the Texans.

Reactions to this update ranged across the spectrum. It truly depended on whose side you were on.
