The big news of the day for the Cleveland Browns was that they officially finalized and announced their trade that brought Deshaun Watson over from the Houston Texans. However, his was not the only quarterback trade involving the Browns on Sunday.

The Browns also announced that they had traded backup QB Case Keenum to the Buffalo Bills for a 2022 7th-round pick.

Keenum spent the last two seasons with the Browns, playing in nine games and starting two this past year. He went 21-of-33 for 199 yards and a touchdown in a win over the Broncos in Week 17 and threw for 216 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception in their 21-16 season-ending win over the Cincinnati Bengals.

Before coming to the Browns, the former Houston Cougars quarterback played for the Houston Texans, St. Louis/Los Angeles Rams, Minnesota Vikings, Denver Broncos, and Washington Commanders. With 64 starts in his career, Keenum has thrown for 14,876 yards with 78 touchdowns and 48 interceptions.

For the Bills, they get a competent backup quarterback behind Josh Allen as they look to get to the Super Bowl next season. As for the Browns, it’s a curious move as they might need to have someone credible on-hand if Watson is suspended for a part of the 2022 NFL season. But then again, they haven’t shown a huge amount of mental acumen in the way they’ve worked with their quarterbacks in recent weeks.
