The Washington Commanders lost last week’s game to the New York Giants after a controversial and sketchy referee decision against wide receiver Terry McLaurin and an apparent missed pass interference call against receiver Curtis Samuel. Head referee John Hussey defended both calls after the game, but apparently, the league now acknowledges that it should have been pass interference.

According to league insiders Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero of The NFL Network, the league admitted that pass interference should have been called on the play by the NFL referees.

“In a pool report after the game, referee John Hussey said of the no-call, which quickly went viral: ‘Pass interference is a judgment call. To the officials it didn’t rise to what they felt was a restriction, thus they didn’t call it. That’s basically the bottom line there,'” the report said. “However, sources say the league acknowledged that it should have been a foul, which would have given Washington another chance for a touchdown and potential tying two-point conversion.”

While there’s no guarantee the Commanders would have gotten the touchdown or the subsequent game-tying two-point conversion if the call was made correctly, the team at least should have had a chance to tie or win the game.
