The New York Giants have not had the success most expected this season. But veteran quarterback Tyrod Taylor did make history for the team in their Week 7 victory over the Washington Commanders.

Taylor played excellently in the game last Sunday, throwing for 279 yards and two touchdowns in a 14-7 victory.

It was perhaps the best game a Giants quarterback has played all season. It also made history in the Giants organization, as Taylor became the African-American quarterback to win a game in franchise history.

This is obviously an absurd stat considering the Giants have been around since 1925. For the organization to never have a black quarterback win a game for them in that amount of type is simply unfathomable.

It also speaks to the lack of opportunity that black quarterbacks have gotten in the organization as a whole. The only other African-American quarterback to even start a game for the Giants was Geno Smith in 2017, and that was due to an injury of Eli Manning at the time.

You can obviously look at this one of two ways. It’s obviously incredible for Tyrod Taylor to hold this distinction. But it is also problematic that it took this long for this to happen.

Considering this, fans had a wide variety of opinions on the news on social media.

Unfortunately for Taylor, it doesn’t sound like he will get all that many chances at starting once Daniel Jones is able to return to the field.

Giants head coach Brian Daboll recently addressed rumors about there being a “quarterback controversy” due to Taylor’s impressive play in recent weeks, where he made it clear that Jones is their starter when he recovers from his injury.
