Greg Roman has emerged as a contender for the open Washington Commanders offensive coordinator position.

Roman, who previously worked for the Baltimore Ravens, wouldn’t have to make a long jaunt from his last job to his next if the Commanders select him.  reported that the two sides intend to meet for an interview.

ESPN NFL reporter John Keim, who writes for Baltimore, reported initially that the teams were trying to set up an interview. “Washington is trying to set up a date for former Baltimore OC Greg Roman to interview his week,” Keim tweeted.

Roman and the Ravens parted ways from each other after the season. He coached in Baltimore from 2017-2022 and held the OC position for four seasons. He was oft-criticized though for underperformance, despite wielding 2019 NFL MVP Lamar Jackson.

It’s perhaps an interesting call for the Commanders for that reason. It’s not as if D.C. and Baltimore are very far from each other. It makes sense from a due diligence standpoint, but the Commanders certainly have heard all the chatter about him. It wasn’t exactly very loud from where they stood.

Nevertheless, the Commanders remain aggressive in trying to find an OC. As the tweet above mentioned, Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bienemey may be on Washington’s radar as well.
