There were several big, momentum-swinging moments during Sunday night’s Super Bowl showdown between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles, highlighted by the controversial holding penalty that set up the Chiefs’ game-winning field goal. But there was one play earlier in the game that hurt the Eagles far more than the late-game penalty.

During the second quarter, with the Eagles up 14-7 over the Chiefs, Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts tried to run the ball for a first down. But as he attempted to move the ball from one hand to the other, he dropped it for a fumble. With no other Eagles players around, Chiefs linebacker Nick Bolton scooped it up and scored a touchdown for the Chiefs.

It was a massive swing in the game, and Jalen Hurts got quite honest about it in his postgame press conference.

“I always hold myself to a very high standard with everything that I do,” Hurts said according to Pro Football Talk. “Obviously, I try to control the things that I can. I touch the ball every play. Obviously, you want to protect it. It did hurt us, it hurt us. You never know what play it will be.”

Outside of the fumble, Hurts played a solid game, completing more than 70 percent of his passes for 304 yards and a touchdown while also rushing for 70 yards and three touchdowns. But he said after the game that he wishes he could have “done something more.”
