When 49ers legend Jerry Rice sounded off in reaction to Colin Kaepernick’s national anthem protests earlier in late August, it ruffled a few feathers, as most reactions to these stadium protests seem to do. Rice fired off a tweet about how all lives matter and suggested Kaepernick not disrespect the flag. That tweet has since been deleted, and Rice is now offering an apology for reacting without properly vetting the situation.

Rice chalked his apology up to a self-lack of awareness of the Black Lives Matter movement, which is a tad remarkable if not unbelievable. Either Rice has been living under a multi-million dollar rock in a state of bliss without paying any attention to current events, or he is just living in a fantasy world. Whatever the case, Rice apologized for his lack of judgement to sound off on a subject he admits to not knowing nearly enough about.

One may find it confusing or suspicious that Rice would use the phrase “All lives matter” in his original tweet only to later suggest he was unaware of the Black Lives Matter movement. It’s either a coincidence Rice used that phrase originally or he’s simply trying to cover up his poor judgment in his tweet. The All Lives Matter movement of sorts has developed in response to the Black Lives Matter movement in this country.

Naturally, Rice’s apology has been met with a mixed bag of appreciation and criticism, because quite honestly nothing can ever be said on the Internet that will gain a 100 percent approval rating on Twitter dot com. There are some who thank Rice for going back and apologizing for his initial reaction upon further review and there are those who take a shot at him for backing down from his original comments.

Do you believe Rice spoke without a full understanding of the situation surrounding Kaepernick, or do you think he is back-pedaling now to make up for what he considered an error in judgement?
