The New York Jets are reportedly targeting one of three veteran quarterbacks this offseason after several players told the team Zach Wilson is not the answer.

Pro Football Network reported Saturday that sources say, “the Jets have said in conversations they will make a move for one of three veterans — Derek Carr, Jimmy Garappolo, and yes — Aaron Rodgers.”

Of course, the speculation about Rodgers going to the Jets is nothing new, and with Carr and Garappolo both veteran quarterbacks in search of a new home, they could be a nice fit. But this report does seem to clarify that Wilson’s on-again, off-again relationship with the Jet might finally be coming to an end.

Head coach Robert Saleh told reporters Jan. 26 the team is “committed to finding a veteran.” According to Pro Football Network’s report, the problem has been that team owner Woody Johnson still holds out hope that the No. 2 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft can be “salvaged.” He believes Wilson “is still an arm talent that should not be discarded.”

On a related note, PFN reported that NFL insiders were still criticizing the Jets hire of former Denver Broncos head coach Nathaniel Hackett as their offensive coordinator. They were also perplexed by the decision to hire offensive line coach Keith Carter, with a source saying the Jets seem to have a “death wish” in hiring the pair.
