Prior to the Jets’ loss to the Patriots Sunday, Jay Glazer of Fox Sports reported that both Carson Wentz and Matt Ryan have reached out to New York about joining the team. The Jets declined their offer, sticking with Zach Wilson, who put together a horrid performance in Week 3.
On Sunday, Wilson completed just 18 of 36 passes (50 percent) for 157 yards.
While Gang Green may have some regrets about turning down Wentz and Ryan’s overtures following Wilson’s lackluster play in a 15-10 loss, they may have to look elsewhere in terms of bringing in a veteran quarterback outside of Florham Park.
That’s because Ryan, who claims his agent did indeed reach out about potentially playing for New York, said on Monday that he has no interest in joining the team. This comes after he confirmed his agent reached out to the Jets.
“No, not on my end,” Ryan said when asked if there was any interest in talking to New York. “I’m really enjoying what I’m doing, working with Andrew [Catalon] and Tiki [Barber] and AJ [Ross], they’ve been fun to work with. To clear it up, obviously, my agent is one of the best at what he does…He wouldn’t be doing his job if he wasn’t looking into certain situations, but he and I talked, and I got no interest in doing that right now. I’m enjoying what I’m doing.”

The Jets haven’t added a quarterback to help replace the blow of the loss of Aaron Rodgers, who ruptured his Achilles tendon just four snaps into his tenure with New York. For now, it appears the Jets are sticking with Wilson and Tim Boyle, though they tried to add Brett Rypien from the Rams practice squad, who opted to join Los Angeles’ active roster instead, according to Pro Football Talk.
The NFL MVP in 2015, Ryan is one of the more formidable options on the current quarterback market. Ryan is not currently in the NFL as he works for CBS as an NFL analyst. But he has made it clear that despite taking the studio job, he does not consider himself retired from the NFL.
But it will have to be a different opportunity than playing in New York to coax Ryan out of his current gig with CBS.
