The Los Angeles Chargers suffered one of the most humiliating defeats in NFL playoff history on Saturday, surrendering a 27-0 lead to the Jacksonville Jaguars before ultimately losing 31-30.
Chargers head coach Brandon Staley has been the focal point of fans’ ire, and rightfully so. But Staley—and longtime Chargers general Tom Telesco—still have the support of franchise quarterback Justin Herbert.
Herbert gave his vote of confidence following Saturday’s historic defeat.
Justin Herbert just told me "we believe in Coach Staley. We believe in the front office."

“We believe in Coach Staley. We believe in the front office,” Herbert told NFL Network reporter Bridget Condon on Sunday.
"Everyone would be lucky to have a coach like Staley." Justin Herbert says Brandon Staley is an incredible leader and genuine.

Everyone would be lucky to have a coach like Staley,” Herbert added.
Herbert, who played collegiately with the Oregon Ducks, finished Saturday’s contest by completing 25 of his 43 passes for 273 yards and a touchdown. He also surrendered three sacks to a Jaguars defense that looked stout the second it surrendered 27 unanswered points to begin the game.
The Chargers finish the season 10-8 after earning a second-place finish in the AFC West behind Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs.
Staley, Telesco, and the Chargers originally selected Herbert with the sixth overall selection in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft. He went on to earn 2020 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year honors after winning the William V. Campbell Trophy, given annually to the college football player with the “best combination of academics, community service, and on-field performance,” his senior season at Oregon.
