Kenny Pickett Beaver County Times

This weekend, Pittsburgh Steelers rookie quarterback Kenny Pickett will make the first start of his NFL career after the team announced he will take over as the team’s starter over veteran Mitchell Trubisky. And while Pickett undoubtedly has some sort of nerves about his first NFL start, the rookie quarterback saying all the right things.

Ahead of his first career start against the Buffalo Bills this weekend, the Steelers are two-touchdown underdogs in the game. But Pickett sounds quite confident.

“Everybody else thinks we’re underdogs. We don’t,” Pickett said, according to the Pittsburgh Steelers team website. “We’re going to go in there with some confidence. We know how great we can be when we’re detailed and we execute at a high level. That’s something we need to take care of during the week or we won’t have a shot.”

While Pickett may be confident, he still acknowledges that the Steelers must perform well as a team if they’re going to pull out the win on Sunday.

“It’s the details, the little things, guys running at the right depth, I’ve got to be on time, give them a great ball and they’ll make the plays. The line has been doing a great job all year, so I have a ton of confidence in those guys. It’s everyone doing their 1/11th and we’ll be OK,” Pickett said.

Sunday’s game between the Bills and the Steelers kicks off at 1 p.m.
