Lamar Jackson Tommy Gilligan-USA TODAY Sports

Lamar Jackson is a good quarterback. In fact, he is one of the best in the league. That’s not in dispute.

However, something feels off about the whole situation involving him and the Baltimore Ravens, especially after his comments on social media.

Jackson recently shared some comments on social media that made many around the NFL world wonder, where is this guy coming from?

“When you have something good, you don’t play with it,” read a quote he posted to his Instagram Stories. “You don’t take chances losing it. You don’t neglect it. When you have something good, you pour it into it. You appreciate it. Because when you take care of something good, that good thing takes care of you too.”

While Jackson may be hurt, which is why he missed the team’s playoff loss to the Cincinnati Bengals, his comments seem to be a bit cryptic regarding his future with the Baltimore Ravens.

He wants to get paid, and who can blame him? But the way he is going about it seems questionable.

Not to say Jackson wasn’t injured, he certainly is. But it also sounds like he may be holding out for a better deal too. His team clearly missed him since he’s been out and it showed in the playoffs, especially on one critical play.

On a goal-line play to take the lead over the Bengals, replacement quarterback Tyler Huntley fumbled the ball, leading to a 99-yard fumble return for a touchdown, essentially ending the game. Up to that point, Huntley was playing well. But his inexperience cost the Ravens a chance to move on to the next round of the playoffs.

Things may have turned out differently had Jackson played. He knows it and so does his team.

You have to wonder if Jackson was punishing the Ravens because they didn’t sign him to a long-term deal and he wanted them to see what life would be like without him. If that’s the case, the message was received. But if so, Lamar Jackson might come to regret sending it.
