Kerryon Johnson jersey

We’ve all lived the experience, when someone gives us a gift that is just totally wrong.

That happened to Detroit Lions fan Mitchell Borin. His mom got him a Calvin Johnson jersey for the holidays.

One problem: It was definitely not a Calvin Johnson jersey. The legendary Detroit star wore No. 81. Borin received a No. 33 Johnson jersey. That was the number worn by former Lions running back Kerryon Johnson, who played three seasons in Detroit (2018-20) and is currently out of the league.

So Borin shared his funny gift story on Twitter.

“My mom thought she got me a Calvin Johnson jersey but it was @AyeyoKEJO still lit though #onepride @Lions @PrideOfDetroit,” Borin tweeted.

And of all people, Kerryon Johnson responded with a quote tweet.

“Boyyyyyy i know you was SICK,” Johnson tweeted, adding a handful of laughing emojis for good measure.

At least Borin seemed excited to get a Lions jersey.

Detroit drafted Kerryon Johnson, a former Auburn Tigers star, in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft. He rushed for 1,225 yards and eight touchdowns before playing briefly for the San Francisco 49ers in 2021.

Fans had a good laugh at Borin’s misfortune.

This happened to me back in 1996(ish?!)… Mom got me a DeionSanders jersey instead of BarrySanders,” tweeted Justin Kunkel. “Much harder for her to return back to a JCPenney catalog.”

“She got that on mega clearance rack lol … All good though!” tweeted Jimbo Slice.

“That jersey still was fire tho! 33 did work in Detroit,” tweeted John Allen.

“Great jersey! I would be proud to rock a Kerryon jersey any day!” tweeted Justin Huybers.

“Nah, Detroit is happy to wear your jersey while singing, “Carry on, my wayward son…” joked a fan.
