The Los Angeles Rams capped off an excellent 2021 regular season with a deep playoff run led by quarterback Matthew Stafford, where they ultimately took down the Cincinnati Bengals to capture their second Super Bowl championship in franchise history.
This offseason will be all about bringing back their core to make another Super Bowl run. To that end, the team made a big decision on Saturday that can certainly help.
Reports have come out that the Rams will be extending Stafford to a four-year $160 million extension that will keep him in Los Angeles until the end of the 2026-27 season. Stafford will receive $135 million in guaranteed money throughout this deal.
Rams and Matthew Stafford finalized a four-year, $160 million extension that includes $135 million guaranteed that should allow the veteran QB to finish his career in Los Angeles, sources tell ESPN.

It was crucial to get Stafford back on an extension for the team. The former Pro-Bowl quarterback had one year left on his deal. Many Rams fans are certainly happy to see him return long-term.
Looks like Stafford is really enjoying the weather out there https://t.co/uteN1AfTdt

Meanwhile, others are comparing the deal that Stafford got compared to the massive contract that the Cleveland Browns gave to newly acquired quarterback Deshaun Watson on Friday.
And still $95 million less guaranteed than what Watson just got from the Browns https://t.co/elChLKXTby

Why not 235 million guaranteed? He’s actually won a Super Bowl https://t.co/yuCiFeLgV5

Stafford had an excellent season in his first with the Rams in 2021, throwing for 4,886 yards and 41 touchdowns on the year with the team success to boot.
At 34, Stafford will likely now finish out his career with the Rams and hopefully compete for another Super Bowl in 2022.
The team has already made a number of moves that will significantly impact their success next season, including signing former Chicago Bears wide receiver Allen Robinson.
They still have some things to work out this offseason. This includes replacing star pass rusher Von Miller who signed with the Buffalo Bills, and convincing Aaron Donald to come back this offseason.
Regardless, this extension for Stafford is just another step for the Rams if they want to run it back next season.
