It would be safe to say that Chicago Bears head coach Matt Nagy is probably not long for that job. He’s been frustrating fans all season long with his play calls and wishy-washy decision-making on Justin Fields. He also always seems to be on the wrong side of every issue.

Still, you can’t come away from Monday night’s game between the Bears and the Minnesota Vikings and say he doesn’t care.

Late in the first quarter, the Vikings took a shot downfield looking to extend their lead. The pass came up incomplete but Bears safety Deon Bush was called for a 15-yard unnecessary roughness call due to his interaction with Minnesota’s Tyler Conklin.

At best, the call was on the line, but very few people watching at home seemed to agree that it was legit. Even those who benefitted from it.

One person who really, really did not like the call was Matt Nagy, who got right in the face of a referee and would not relent until he finally walked away as the ref pulled an unsportsmanlike penalty flag on him as well.

Say what you want about Nagy but it seemed like everyone, including Bears fans, was on his side on this one.

The Bears are down 17-3 in the third quarter and it doesn’t look like they’ll be able to turn things around. Chances are, it’ll be another loss and everyone will go back to hating Nagy and calling for him to be fired. But for one brief shining moment, everyone was united behind Matt and it felt really weird.
