Philadelphia Eagles linebacker Myles Jack faced a crossroads in his career before signing with his new team.

Earlier this year, the Pittsburgh Steelers released Jack after one season with the team. Jack didn’t get the reception from NFL suitors that he had planned, and at one point, he pondered retiring from the NFL after seven seasons and going into the trades as an electrician or a plumber.

“I like to work. I couldn’t sit at home,” Jack told Zack Berman of The Athletic. “I’ve been blessed to make a lot of money. I could retire and sit at the house. … I want to be innovative. If a Zombie apocalypse came, I want to be able to build something.”

Jack, however, didn’t need to complete a form to become a tradesman apprentice. The Eagles, fresh off their NFC championship and Super Bowl appearance, signed Jack before he made the call to retire.

“Time waits for nobody,” Jack said.

Jack, a native of Bellevue, Washington, signed with the UCLA Bruins out of high school as a five-star prospect. The Jacksonville Jaguars selected Jack with the 36th overall pick in the second round of the 2016 NFL Draft. He played five seasons with the Jaguars before signing a two-year deal with the Steelers in March 2022.
