The NFL world is buzzing over the Carolina Panthers and their head coaching hire. On Thursday, the Panthers swooped in to take themselves off the coaching carousel. Carolina hired Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive coordinator Dave Canales as the team’s next head coach.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter was among those to report the news of Caneles’ hiring in Carolina.

“Panthers are hiring Buccaneers’ offensive coordinator Dave Canales as their new head coach,” Schefter most likely aimed to say. “Panthers have offered the job, and Canales is taking it.”

The Panthers had been linked to various names during their coaching search. Ultimately, landing on Canales is a strong hire. He might not be the biggest name of the bunch like Bill Belichick or even Mike Vrabel. But it’s true that Canales has done a great job with offenses in his previous stops.

After all, remember Geno Smith’s renaissance in 2022? Guess who was his quarterbacks coach? Baker Mayfield, prior to going to Tampa Bay, developed a reputation for leaning too middling as a QB. Well, Canales was his coordinator, and Mayfield excelled like almost never before this past season.

Bryce Young is currently doing handsprings.

This is certainly a big move in the coaching circles and one the Panthers hopefully won’t regret. The NFL world had plenty to say about the Panthers’ hire and what it could mean.
