The Los Angeles Rams officially parted ways with disgruntled running back Cam Akers, trading him to the Minnesota Vikings. News of the trade, which includes a draft picks swap in 2026, was first reported on Wednesday afternoon by ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

“Trade: Rams are sending RB Cam Akers to the Minnesota Vikings for a swap of 2026 draft picks,” Schefter posted on X.

The trade concludes a longstanding divide between Akers and the Rams. Akers’ future with the team was in question last season after peculiarly missing time during the season.

But later, the Rams reactivated him and kept him around. Things didn’t appear to improve this season. Fox’s Jay Glazer reported earlier this week that the team intended to try and trade him. Then on Sunday, he did not play due to a “coach’s decision.” Akers expressed confusion over this decision on X.

Nevertheless, the situation has finally found a resolution. Minnesota has been running back needy, as their decision to move on from Dalvin Cook hasn’t paid dividends yet. The team only has 69 rushing yards this season through its first two games. The hope is that Cam provides a jolt and gets them going on the ground to balance their attack with All-Pro wide receiver Justin Jefferson around.

Akers was part of the Rams’ Super Bowl championship team in 2021 that defeated the Cincinnati Bengals at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles.
