Jimmy Garoppolo and Trey Lance were once seen as the future of the San Francisco 49ers. However, a lot can happen in two years in the NFL, and now Garoppolo is with the Las Vegas Raiders and Lance has been traded to the Dallas Cowboys.

Garoppolo has no ill will towards the 49ers, but he can certainly empathize with Lnace as San Francisco continues to play a game of musical chairs at the quarterback position. Garoppolo commented on Lance being traded during an appearance on NFL Total Access with NFL Network’s Andrew Siciliano. However, the comments he made in an interview with Sports Illustrated seem to peel back the curtain just a little bit more.

Here’s what Garoppolo had to say about what he made of Lance getting traded to Dallas, via SF Gate:

“Uh, you know, weird situation. Been a lot of weird situations over there in San Francisco, just to leave it at that, but I’m happy Trey got another shot, man. Happy he’s getting to Dallas, gets another opportunity. Hopefully things work out there, but it’s a weird league. Everyone has a different story of how they get to places, myself included in that. It’s never a straight line. There’s always going to be bumps in the road, some things that you’ve got to overcome.

“I think Trey’s made of the right stuff. He’s a good dude, love that guy, he’s a brother to me so I’m always pulling for him.”

Garoppolo stopped short of criticizing the organization he led to a Super Bowl appearance, but he made it quite clear that neither he nor Lance were placed in situations that once could be attributed to being normal. But if Garoppolo was looking for a normal situation on his way out the door, perhaps Las Vegas wasn’t the right choice.

In any event, it seems that Garoppolo is happy that neither he nor Lance longer has to deal with the “weird” situations in the Bay Area.
