The Baker Mayfield sweepstakes continue and while it sounded like the Seattle Seahawks were the frontrunner, it now sounds like they weren’t all that interested to begin with, according to Ian Rapoport.

The NFL insider told The Pat McAfee Show on Tuesday that he doesn’t think anything will be happening with the team and the Cleveland quarterback.

“It is not right,” he said. “There’s a couple times a year this happens where you get like an Internet rumor that kinda takes on a life of its own. And believe me, I always check. And I’ve heard nothing to corroborate Baker to the Seahawks at all. And, like, I don’t know what’s gonna happen at the end of all this. Like, maybe this guy announces he’s trolling us. It seems crazy to me, but they have never really been that interested in Baker. What they have wanted is a Drew Lock v. Geno Smith battle.”

That may come as a shock to some considering that it appeared both sides were interested in making a deal but, so far, no team seems to be interested in taking Mayfield, other than perhaps the Carolina Panthers. The Panthers are the only other team that has been said to be in play for Mayfield and that is still an iffy proposition.
