While the Seattle Seahawks try to make sense of their quarterback situation, they shored up a critical component of their defense on Monday, agreeing to terms with safety Quandre Diggs on a three-year deal worth $40 million, according to Ian Rapoport.

The Seahawks traded a fifth-round pick to the Detroit Lions for Diggs in 2019 and he has since blossomed into one of the top safeties in the NFL. He’s coming off a season in which he had a career-high 94 total tackles, 66 solo tackles, and five interceptions. Diggs has also been selected for the Pro Bowl in the last two years and the 29-year-old appears to be in the prime of his NFL career. No wonder the Seahawks wanted to lock him up for the foreseeable future.
At the end of the 2021 season, Diggs suffered a dislocated ankle and a broken right fibula during a game, but he is expected to be ready to play in 2022.
The Seahawks are going to look very different in 2022 now that quarterback Russell Wilson and linebacker Bobby Wagner are both gone. But building a defense around players like Diggs is a good start and the news of his new deal was received positively in NFL circles.
The Quandre Diggs deal is a rare (of late) total personnel win for the Seahawks. They absolutely stole him from the Lions, and then got him for market value or below given his talent.

It might be rebuilding time in Seattle this season, but having Diggs on hand will make Seahawks fans a little better about the immediate future of the franchise.
