The Seattle Seahawks lost 39-32 to the New Orleans Saints on Sunday. They also suffered added injury to the insult when running back Rashaad Penny was carted off the field. Penny (seen above earlier in the game) left with what Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll called a “serious” ankle injury.

“Pete Carroll says Rashaad Penny has a ‘serious’ ankle injury and it will be very tough for Seahawks to get him back. Sounds he will be out a long time—again,” The Tacoma News-Tribune‘s Gregg Bell reported after the game.

NFL.com reporter Ian Rapoport added context to Penny’s injury minutes later.

Seahawks running back Rashaad Penny suffered a fractured tibia, sources say, and he’ll have tests tomorrow to determine associated damage to see if surgery is necessary. As of now, it’s likely. Heart-breaking,” Rapoport tweeted.

Penny’s 2022 campaign appears over. Perry was third in the NFL in 20+ yard carries behind Nick Chubb (17) and Jonathan Taylor (16). He accomplished that on 168 carries compared to Chubb’s 309 and Taylor’s 413, according to Corbin K. Smith of FanNation’s AllSeahawks site.

Penny took 17 attempts for 151 yards and two touchdowns against the Lions in Week 4. Against the Saints, he compiled 54 yards on eight attempts before leaving the game with an injury.

The Seahawks drafted Perry with the 27th overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft.
