The highly anticipated coronation of the Trey Lance era will have to wait a while longer now that the San Francisco 49ers quarterback will miss the rest of the season following surgery to repair a broken ankle. However, the starter isn’t letting the injury keep him from being excited about what’s still ahead.

Lance took to Twitter on Monday following surgery to share a message thanking those who supported him, and that he’ll be back “better than ever.” He also included a photo of himself in the hospital bed smiling and holding up the peace sign.

Truly appreciate all of the messages and prayers,” wrote Lance. “Surgery was a success and I am ready to attack this rehab process. We will never understand why, but I trust that it’s all a part of His plan. I will be back better than ever. This chapter is going to make the story even greater!

It’s going to be hard for Lance to watch the 49ers season unfold, especially given the added storyline that it now becomes a Jimmy Garoppolo redemption opportunity (or at least a chance for Jimmy to set his price on the free agent market next year).

Injuries are part of football and it’s extremely disappointing for Lance, but it looks like the future remains bright for him.
