Georgia Republican Senate candidate Herschel Walker has weathered numerous scandals throughout his campaign and is currently in a neck-and-neck race with the state’s Democratic incumbent, Reverend Raphael Warnock.

With election day looming next month, it stands to reason that many people want to talk to Walker throughout the day. One of those people was Tooning Out the News, the animated news show produced by comedian Stephen Colbert.

As you might imagine, Tooning Out the News had comedy on the mind when they contacted Walker with help of solving a fictional crime.

Basically, what I wanted to do is I wanted to report a crime,” fake news anchor James Smartwood, voiced by comedian R.J. Fried, tells Walker. “I left my window down in my car last night, someone stole my laptop out of the passenger seat, and so I’m just trying to figure out if there’s any way in your—as someone who’s a law enforcement person—if there’s any way you can take a look at it.”

Walker instantly takes the bait and responds in a genuine manner.

“Well, I’ll tell you what I’ll do is we’ll report your thing, and all that and stuff. That’ll be great. What we’ll do is, you got a number I can call?” Walker asked Smartwood before taking down his number. Walker advised Smartwood to “get some fingerprints” and “check out any security cameras in the area.”

Walker eventually promises Smartwood to see if he can help in any way as an “honorable sheriff” before concluding the call.

The 2022 midterm elections will be held on Nov. 8th.
