This week’s top viral video was probably a high school kid’s La La Land-spoofing prom invite to Emma Stone.

In case you missed it:

Now, that’s solid, and good for the kid (Jacob Staudenmeier) for capitalizing on his chance at Internet fame, if that’s actually a thing. (Though it bears questioning: how much free time must those kids have? Are there no part-time jobs anymore? Back in my day (2004) I had to work at a hardware store after school. I’m old now.)

Obviously Emma Stone was never going to go to prom with this kid. She’s Emma Stone. He’s him. That’s just how the world works.

However, he did get an actual reply, which is probably more than he ever thought he’d get. He shared it on Good Morning America, which you probably didn’t see, because the Venn diagram of Comeback readers and GMA viewers is just two entirely separate circles.

Here’s the note:

Jacob, thanks for making the greatest proposal I have ever received. I can’t tell you what an honour that was and how much I smiled through that entire beautifully orchestrated video. I’m in London working, but I hope you have the best time at prom, and I’m grateful you thought of me.

Thank you.

P.S. I do see Gosling around the eyes. Love, Emma
