Genie Bouchard on Day Five of the 2015 US Open at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center on September 4, 2015 in the Flushing neighborhood of the Queens borough of New York City.

When the New England Patriots trailed 21-0 with 2:21 left in the second quarter to the Atlanta Falcons, Super Bowl 51 was pretty much over. At that point, everyone assumed the Falcons would be hoisting the Vince Lombardi Trophy in a couple hours.

Everyone including Canadian tennis star Genie Bouchard. In fact, Bouchard was so confident the Falcons would win, she promised a fan if the Patriots came back, she would go on a date with him.

Atlanta led 28-3 in the third quarter and 28-9 heading into the final frame, so it looked like her bet wouldn’t end up poorly for her. Then Tom Brady returned to GOAT form, sent the game to overtime, and won his fifth ring. At that point, reality set in for Bouchard.

And her one-date friend was PSYCHED.

At least Bouchard learned her lesson, right? Never make bets with strange people who go by “punslayintwoods” on Twitter no matter how sure you are?

Maybe that’s an even better lesson, honestly. And hey, at least this was only the second-worst thing to happen to Canadian tennis Sunday
