When Deion Sanders was introduced to the current Colorado Buffaloes football team, he infamously told players that if they felt like it, they should head for the transfer portal. Some of them have decided to take him up on that offer.
“I’m coming, and when I get here it’s gonna be changed,” said Sanders last week. “So I want y’all to get ready. Go ahead and jump in that (transfer) portal and do whatever you’re gonna get. Because the more of you jump in, the more room you make. We bring kids that are smart and tough.”
Monday, quarterback Maddox Kopp took Sanders up on that and entered the transfer portal.

“Thank you to Buff Nation for my time in Boulder,” said Kopp. “I intend to enter the transfer portal with 3 years left of eligibility.”
Kopp only appeared in one game in 2022, starting the final game of Colorado’s 1-11 season. He completed 15 of 28 passes for 123 yards and a touchdown in a 63-21 loss to the Utah Utes.
A three-star recruit out of high school, Kopp was the 53rd-ranked quarterback from his class, according to 247Sports. He initially committed to play for Houston but transferred to Colorado last year. The quarterback had offers from Ole Miss, Tulane, Wyoming, Central Michigan, and others.
Kopp likely presumed that his chances of starting next season were low when Shedeur Sanders, son of Deion, announced he would be transferring to Colorado next season.
Sanders also shook up the list of Colorado recruits, pulling scholarships from some of them.
