While much of the SEC talk centers around the Georgia Bulldogs, Tennessee Volunteers, and Alabama Crimson Tide, the Missouri Tigers are hoping to make some noise through the remainder of the season. And that begins with a big crowd on Saturday when the Kentucky Wildcats come to town.
The Tigers are coming off a big road win over the South Carolina Gamecocks last Saturday, which propelled them into 3rd place in the SEC West behind Georgia and Tennessee. The winner of this week’s game between them and Kentucky will likely have that 3rd spot locked up for a bit and have a leg up in the hunt for a quality bowl game.
That’s why Tigers head coach Eli Drinkwitz wants to see a big crowd at Faurot Field this weekend. However, that might not happen given that the game kicks off at 11:00 a.m. ET, which does not exactly leave many morning hours for prime tailgating opportunities.
Drinkwitz is hoping that Mizzou fans will be willing to make a “sacrifice” in order to pack the stadium.
Eli Drinkwitz says he knows 11 am kickoffs aren't always the fans' favorite, but he's counting on a good crowd Saturday vs. Kentucky.
"You don't want to crack your first beer until after 10:30 in the morning. I get that. But everybody's got to make sacrifices."— Dave Matter (@Dave_Matter) November 1, 2022
“You don’t want to crack your first beer until after 10:30 in the morning. I get that,” Drinkwitz told reporters on Tuesday. “But everybody’s got to make sacrifices.”
We’ll see if Tigers fans took the coach’s tongue-in-cheek advice to heart when the game kicks off and the initial crowd shots come in.
