The Michigan Wolverines faced off against the Washington Huskies in the CFP National Championship on Monday night. Ultimately, it was the No. 1 ranked defense throughout the year from Michigan along with a prolific rushing attack on offense that made the difference.

Michigan and head coach Jim Harbaugh have continuously come up short in the College Football Playoff in recent years, losing in the CFP Semifinal in each of the last two seasons.

The win over Alabama in the Rose Bowl presented a chance for Harbaugh to rewrite history and stamp his name in the history of college football.

The Wolverines and Harbaugh did just that in large part thanks to the dynamic rushing attack of both star running back Blake Corum and junior backup Donovan Edwards. Both rushed for over 100 yards, combining for 237 rushing yards and four touchdowns on the ground.

On the defensive side of the ball, the vaunted Michigan pass rush got to Washington star quarterback Michael Penix Jr. over and over again, forcing several errant throws and two interceptions.

Penix Jr. came into the game averaging 357 passing yards per game. Michigan held him to just 255 passing yards while also completely shutting down the run game.

There was a clear physicality gap on both sides of the ball in favor of Michigan, which helped the Wolverines secure their first National Championship since 1997 with a 34-13 victory.

Fans took to social media to congratulate Michigan on their dominant victory.

With this victory, this Michigan team enters some rare company. The Wolverines are just the fourth team in the CFP era to finish with a 15-0 record along with the 2022 Georgia Bulldogs, the 2019 LSU Tigers, and the 2018 Clemson Tigers.

Say what you will about this Michigan team regarding the sign-stealing investigation throughout the season and whether or not it taints this undefeated season.

But when it comes to playing on the field, the Wolverines certainly deserve their flowers as one of the most physically imposing and well-rounded teams in recent memory.
