The college football world has been speculating about who will ultimately get into the College Football Playoff after a number of shocking upsets this weekend. Alabama head coach Nick Saban made his pitch for Alabama to get in on Saturday.

Saban was interviewed during halftime of the Big Ten Championship game between Michigan and Purdue, where he gave his reasoning for Alabama to get in over the likes of TCU, Ohio State, and USC.

“I think the whole goal is to get the best teams in,” said Saban. “What I would say to the committee and everyone else is that if we played any of these teams that are on the edge of getting in, would we be the underdog or would we be the favorite? If you answer that question and the goal is to get the best teams in, then you would say they belong in there.

“You show vulnerability when you get beat at the end of the season and our team has played better at the end of the season.”

Considering the way that Alabama lost their games, Nick Saban certainly has an argument that his team is amongst the top-four teams in the country based on talent.

However, the optics of Alabama being a two-loss team compared to Ohio State and TCU having one loss certainly does not compare favorable for Saban.

Another issue is that Alabama doesn’t exactly have the most impressive wins. Their best SEC win is over either Ole Miss or Mississippi State, who certainly aren’t among the elite teams in college football. Overall, the Tide’s best win may be Texas, a team that TCU also defeated and by a wider margin.

Regardless, the College Football Playoff final rankings on Sunday should be interesting however they play out.
