Last year, the Texas Longhorns welcomed Quinn Ewers via the transfer portal and saw Casey Thompson leave via it as well. This year, one of their quarterbacks is back in the portal and heading elsewhere.
According to ESPN’s Pete Thamel, Texas quarterback Hudson Card plans to enter the transfer portal in the coming days.

The former ESPN Top 40 and four-star recruit lost the battle for starting quarterback this past season to Ewers. After Ewers suffered an injury in Week 2, Card started three games, going 2-1 and throwing for 741 yards, six touchdowns, and one interception in that stretch.
The Austin native had been named the starter in 2021 but lost that role to Thompson before he transferred.
With Ewers returning and Arch Manning coming to Texas next year, it seemed pretty unlikely that Card would be able to find much playing time. In three seasons with the Longhorns, Card garnered 1,523 passing yards, 11 touchdowns, and two interceptions. He also completed 65.5 percent of his passes and had a passer rating of 148.1.
Per Thamel, Card is looking to land with a program “that fits his skill set to continue to develop.”
During his recruitment, Card received offers from some of the biggest programs in the nation, including Alabama, Michigan, Ohio State, and Penn State. We’ll see if any of them put out feelers about bringing him aboard now or if he looks for a smaller school in order to improve his chances of playing.
