Joseph Halm Arcidiacono

The Houston Astros rallied from a 2-1 World Series deficit to defeat the Philadelphia Phillies last week. It was the second Astros’ championship in six years and their first championship since the controversial 2017 title.

That would normally be something to celebrate for Astros fans. However, one fan couldn’t resist throwing a White Claw can at Texas junior Senator Ted Cruz during the championship parade in Houston. The can struck Cruz, and the attacker, 33-year-old Joseph Halm Arcidiacono, was arrested for the crime.

“Beer flies at Ted Cruz during Astros World Series Parade,” a Twitter user wrote with the attached video of the incident.

Cruz had previously been heckled by New York Yankees fans during the ALCS in New York.

“HPD made one arrest during today’s victory parade,” Houston police tweeted Monday following the arrest. “A male, 33, threw a beer can at US Senator Ted Cruz as the Senator was on a float in the 2400 block of Smith St. The beer can struck the Senator in the chest/neck area.”

Arcidiacono, for his part, admits he was stupid to assault a sitting United States Senator.

“I know, I’m an idiot. I’m sorry,” the suspect told officers as he was arrested, according to The Independent.

Cruz was uninjured by the attack. Afterward, he told social media he was thankful his attacker had “a noodle arm.”
