Last year certainly didn’t go according to plan for former Duke Blue Devils star Zion Williamson after he missed the entire 2021-22 season due to a lingering foot injury. While he was sidelined, Williamson took a lot of heat for his apparent poor conditioning and he tried to do a lot to prove that he was not out of shape.

While Williamson spent most of his time away from the team out of the spotlight and the public eye, he revealed that he dealt with some mental health issues during that time.

“I was in dark places at times,” Williamson said, according to Sports Illustrated. “Because I couldn’t play basketball. I could only do limited rehab things. And then just seeing how the world reacted? It took a lot. It did a lot on my spirit.”

After such a long stint on the injury report, Williamson is set to return and looks healthier than ever.

“They’re going to see that I’ve matured off the court and on the court,” Williamson said. “And they’re also gonna see that my game has evolved. I’m gonna show the world things that I’ve had in my arsenal that I didn’t show before.”

Williamson will hope to be playing up to that lottery pick potential this season.
