Hue Jackson has a long career as an assistant and head coach in the NFL and college. Following a recent run of assistant positions, he might be returning to the rank of head coach according to a report by John Brice at FootballScoop.

Brice has various sources telling him that Jackson is the top choice for the Grambling State Tigers head football coach position.

Talks between Grambling officials and Jackson, per sources with knowledge, have intensified in the past 48 to 72 hours,” said Brice. “Per sources, Alabama State officials last month also spoke with Jackson regarding their coaching vacancy, which was filled by ASU alum Eddie Robinson Jr.”

GSU fired Broderick Fobbs last month after eight seasons in which he went 54-32, including a 12-1 finish in 2016. Grambling is coming off a 3-7 finish this past season.

Jackson spent this past season as the offensive coordinator & quarterbacks coach for Tennessee State, his first college job after years in the NFL. That includes two stints as an NFL head coach, with the Oakland Raiders in 2011 and the Cleveland Browns between 2016 and 2018. His stint with the Browns was particularly “memorable” as he went 3-36, including an 0-16 season.

Jackson spent many years coaching in the college ranks before his time in the NFL, working as an assistant for Arizona State, California, and USC.

As word broke about Jackson’s potential new head coaching opportunity, there were some strong reactions on social media.

If Jackson does make it back into the head coaching role, hopefully, it goes a lot better than his last one.
