The Samford Bulldogs pulled off a big upset — 14-point underdogs — to take down the Ole Miss Rebels 75-73 on Tuesday in Oxford, MS. It initially appeared that Ole Miss nailed a buzzer-beating shot for the win, but that turned out to not be the case for multiple reasons.

Ole Miss forward Jameyn Brakefield nailed a shot from the corner that had most people in the arena thinking was a game-winning three-pointer as time expired.

However, it was ruled a two-point shot, as Brakefield’s left foot was on the three-point line.

And making matters much, much worse for Ole Miss: after further review, it was determined that Brakfield didn’t even get the shot off in time.

So that play went from Ole Miss appearing to win the game, to Ole Miss appearing to send the game to overtime, to Ole Miss losing the game.

Samford is now 10-2 on the season, but that’s a rough loss at home for an SEC school in Ole Miss (even with the win, Samford only ranks 240th on KenPom, for example).

Ole Miss falls to 8-4 on the season, and their NET ranking — 120 entering Tuesday — is sure to plummet after this loss.
