After some pretty convincing research, there are plenty of voices calling for the NFL to reconsider its use of artificial turf and instead move to real grass playing surfaces across the entire league. Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll and San Francisco 49ers pass rusher Nick Bosa have each called the league to reconsider, and now another high-profile voice is joining the conversation: Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

On Tuesday, Aaron Rodgers said that he believes the league should move to all-grass fields across the NFL in the interest of player safety.

“I think you would see less of these non-contact injuries that we see on some of the surfaces, and I think that it’d be a good step in the right direction towards player safety to make the requirement for every field to be grass,” Rodgers told ESPN.

Even though Rodgers would like to see turf fields installed all across the NFL, he does not actually expect that to happen given the cost.

“I don’t have a lot of confidence when it comes to the league making that decision without some sort of big vote and gripes from certain owners who don’t want to spend the money,” Rodgers said.

But if star players continue to suffer preventable injuries as a result of the playing surface, maybe a change will be made.
