Aaron Rodgers said Tuesday he’s been friends with wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. for years, and “you’re always hoping there’s a time you can figure things out and play together.”

In his weekly appearance on the “Pat McAfee Show,” the Green Bay Packers quarterback talked about OBJ’s tweets on Sunday complimenting Rodgers’ play in a win over the New England Patriots. For those who missed them:

When someone replied, “Lot of damage could be done with you and Rodgers,” Beckham Jr. followed up.

Sounds like Beckham Jr. is hinting he’d like to join the Packers. The star receiver is currently rehabbing an ACL injury he suffered in the Super Bowl. He’s a free agent and reportedly visited the New York Giants practice facility Monday. He’s also expressed interest in returning to the Los Angeles Rams.

But when Beckham is ready to return later this season, Rodgers would be open to the 29-year-old receiver coming to Green Bay.

Odell and I have been friends for a number of years now and so we keep in contact often,” Rodgers said. “Obviously with a player like that, you’re always hoping there’s a time you can figure things out and play together. He’s a special talent.”

“I’m not sure what his status is going to be honestly. … I don’t know if there’s anybody who rehabs as hard as him,” Rodgers continued. “But I like Odell a lot and appreciate his friendship. I first and foremost want to see him healthy. … I’m sure he’ll have his pick of competitive playoff teams who are looking to add a stud like that to their roster.”

Breaking it all down, OBJ showed in his stint with the Rams he could still play at a high level. The Packers are thin at wide receiver. Rodgers and Beckham Jr. are friends. OBJ to Green Bay makes a lot of sense.
