After hiring Kellen Moore, the Los Angeles Chargers aren’t done hiring former Dallas Cowboys assistants. LA reportedly hired former quarterbacks coach Doug Nussmeier for the same position, according to ESPN reporter Jeremy Fowler.

“Chargers are hiring Doug Nussmeier as quarterbacks coach, per source,” Fowler wrote. “Nussmeier, who was Dak Prescott’s coach in Dallas, reunites with OC Kellen Moore, now works with Justin Herbert.”

The Chargers hired Moore at the end of January after the Cowboys opted not to retain him. It only makes sense that Nussmeier, who worked with Moore, would be hired next. Moore and Nussmeier probably have a strong sense of familiarity with each other. Head coach Brandon Staley heads into his third season as coach in LA, and after this season, change was much needed.

Nussmeier previously worked in college with Alabama, Florida, and Michigan, among others.

LA went back to the postseason but came up empty. The Chargers built a 27-0 lead over the Jacksonville Jaguars before the Jaguars caught up and beat them. The embarrassing defeat still looms large and led to Joe Lombardi’s dismissal as OC. They hired Moore quickly after the Cowboys let him go. One Dallas Cowboys great didn’t really care for that move, and one has to wonder what they think now.

Nevertheless, the Chargers are banking on Kellen Moore and Doug Nussmeier to be the secret sauce for heralded quarterback Justin Herbert.
