NFL Baltimore Ravens defensive end Derek Wolfe NFL Baltimore Ravens defensive end Derek Wolfe

Derek Wolfe played nine seasons in the NFL as defensive end with the Denver Broncos and Baltimore Ravens before retiring after the 2021 season.

The position is one of the most violent in the sport, and it’s unsurprising when players have unusual pregame habits they need to get themselves in such a mindset.

Wolfe, however, maybe the first to admit to ingesting magic mushrooms and Adderall before games.

“Before games, I was taking microdoses. . . . I’m [freaking] taking mushrooms and Adderall before I play,” Wolfe told the Joe Rogan Podcast. He said he needed the drugs to get into what he called “rage mode.”

“Dude, the [freaking] focus is out of control. I would just, like, before games, I would get myself [mad] – so I just would start thinking about my childhood, all the [stuff] I went through as a kid. And it would [freaking] get me into this rage mode. It was like this crazy controlled rage,” he continued.

“So Adderall, mushrooms and childhood rage altogether in a 280-pound savage,” Rogan jokingly replied.

Wolfe admitted the drugs had an effect on his psyche.

“Just, [freaking], such a meathead. Saying wild, crazy [stuff] to quarterbacks. I told a guy I was going to [freaking] eat his kids. It was crazy. . . .

“That’s what you do, man. It’s a head game. I’m trying to get in his head.”

Sounds like Wolfe would be more effective than most.
