The New York Jets benched former first-round pick Zach Wilson and didn’t regret that decision Sunday.
Led by an inspired performance from backup Mike White, the Jets ran roughshod over the visiting Chicago Bears. White threw three touchdown passes in the Jets’ 31-10 victory over the Bears.
Wilson was benched for poor performance and lack of leadership. The team lost confidence in the former first-rounder according to Fox Sports’ Jay Glazer. Unfortunately for Wilson, it showed in the team’s brilliant performance against Chicago.
Where Wilson goes next will be important for him and his career. One prominent voice has offered him advice already. Bill Cowher chimed in on the “NFL on CBS” postgame show Sunday. The Hall of Fame former coach, who has developed a recent penchant for being outspoken, once again let his voice be heard.

“There’s a certain chemistry that exists,” Cowher said. “And we don’t see it, whatever, we talk about Zach Wilson what he may have is what Mike White does have. He brings people together and for whatever reason, they seem to be, like you said, having fun with this guy.”
Cowher continued, calling the benched quarterback to action. “And hopefully right now, especially for Zach Wilson, I hope you take some notes about what leadership is all about.”
