After the first night of the 2022 NFL Draft, Deebo Samuel remains a member of the San Francisco 49ers. However, according to NFL insider Ian Rapoport, the New York Jets and Detroit Lions both made offers for the disgruntled wide receiver but the Niners said no to both.

Samuel requested a trade after he and the 49ers couldn’t come to an agreement and given that the team received legitimately offers that they turned down, that probably won’t sit well with him. San Francisco has said they feel like Samuel is “too good” to trade and want to work things out with him, but that might be wishful thinking, especially as other wide receivers are getting big deals or being traded as requested.
The Jets have been seen as the favorite to land Samuel, given head coach Robert Saleh’s previous experience with him. According to The Athletic’s Matt Barrows, the team made a pretty serious offer on Thursday for him, though the Niners clearly wanted more.
#49ers might have been persuaded by a king's ransom offer for Deebo Samuel. What they got was significantly less than that. Per a league source, the Jets… https://t.co/wTFldphxVC

The Jets’ offer for Deebo Samuel was the No. 10 pick and a 5th-rounder in exchange for the wideout and the 49ers’ 2nd-rounder.
You can see both sides of this making sense. The Jets certainly made a decent offer but the 49ers didn’t feel that they were in a desperate enough situation to sell on Samuel when they feel as though they still hold the cards. That may or may not be true depending on how Deebo plays all of this out, but for now, they know that they have something the Jets would kill to have and they’re willing to wait out an even better offer.
Not to mention, San Fran has reportedly said they wanted two first-rounders in any deal for Samuel if they were to consider it.
In the meantime, the terms of the potential offer have the NFL world at odds over whether or not the 49ers should have taken it.
Agreed. Both the Jets' and Lions' offers were deemed too weak, which suggests why the 49ers didn't engage in trade talks. In terms of points, the Jets offered more but certainly not enough to move the needle for SF … or even get it twitching. https://t.co/lElHyWo6Ex

We calculate this as a potential 0.35 WAR gain for the 49ers. Titans gained 0.66 WAR on the AJ Brown deal (18, 101) https://t.co/wdtTSVObew

The #Jets are not a Deebo Samuel away from being a competing team, so I'm glad they didn't offer the farm for him https://t.co/b6oXQYJtNQ

If I were the #49ers, I think I've done it. https://t.co/Y8RxZtBWmD

The Jets were giving up the value of pick No. 15 for Deebo Samuel
For comparison, the Chiefs got back the value of pick No. 13 for Tyreek Hill (incl. estimates on next year's fourth and sixth-round choices).
The Packers also got back the value of pick No. 13 for Davante Adams https://t.co/mZlnqjWfwW

I don’t blame the #49ers for quickly ending the conversation. https://t.co/BiiduSqkQs

Now we’ll find out just how badly the Jets want Samuel and if they can make a counter-offer juicy enough for the 49ers to consider parting ways with their budding superstar.
