The Los Angeles Rams pulled off a stunning comeback victory against the Las Vegas Raiders last week thanks to the late-game heroics of Baker Mayfield, who joined the team just two days earlier. Now, Mayfield has officially been installed as the team’s starting quarterback.

It was a struggle for Mayfield and the Rams’ offense for most of the game last Thursday, but they turned things around in the fourth quarter thanks to a 17-play touchdown drive capped off by a rushing touchdown from Cam Akers. After getting a defensive stop, Mayfield capped a 98-yard drive with a beautiful game-winning touchdown pass to wide receiver Van Jefferson.

Mayfield had been cut by the Carolina Panthers just a few days before following a disappointing run with the team. The former Cleveland Browns quarterback appeared likely to spend the rest of the season as a backup somewhere. Now, he has the chance to be a starter for the rest of the year and prove that he deserves another shot somewhere next year.
