Former Denver Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson now finds himself in a position he has never been in. A free agent with potentially limited options as to where he plays next season. However, it appears that he is making significant steps into figuring out where he could be playing next season, steps that seem to include the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The Pittsburgh Steelers made the postseason despite pretty below-average quarterback play all season long from the likes of Kenny Pickett and Mason Rudolph.

Pittsburgh has been linked to several quarterbacks this offseason including Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields and former Tennessee quarterback Ryan Tannehill. But it now appears that they are potentially serious about their interest in Russell Wilson.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport first reported that Wilson was spotted catching a flight to visit with the Steelers on Friday morning.

This was later confirmed by Josina Anderson of CBS Sports.

Rumors have been circulating about a potential pairing between Wilson and the Steelers ever since Wilson was released by the Broncos earlier this month.

Now that there is some action happening between the two sides, fans certainly seem to believe that Pittsburgh may be the most likely landing spot for Wilson.

Wilson is coming off a pretty impressive season despite the Broncos’ struggles, passing for 3,070 yards along with 26 touchdowns and eight interceptions in 15 games.

Not only would Wilson be an upgrade over Kenny Pickett and Mason Rudolph on paper, but it would also be the first time since Ben Roethlisberger was in town that the Steelers have had a veteran quarterback with big-game experience.

Is Russell Wilson still the same player that led the Seattle Seahawks to multiple Super Bowl appearances? Probably not. But, he is still an excellent game manager at this point in his career. And that may be all Mike Tomlin needs to make the Steelers a legitimate contender in the AFC.
