The Jacksonville Jaguars travel to the Pacific Northwest to take on the Seattle Seahawks this Sunday. It will be Urban Meyer’s first trip to Lumen Field in Seattle, a stadium well-known for the impact that sound can have. Seahawks fans have set decibel-level records over the years cheering on their team, much to the chagrin of whichever opponent is forced to deal with him. They’ve even jumped up and down to the point where they registered something akin to a magnitude 1 or 2 earthquake.
All of which is to say that the Jaguars players and coaches better be ready to deal with the noise. And according to head coach Urban Meyer, that’s something they’ve been discussing this week. Meyer told reporters that some of the former Seahawks players on their roster have been letting him know what to expect.
“They said it’s the loudest outdoor stadium we play in,” Meyer said. “And I said, ‘LSU? Alabama? Penn State?’ They said, ‘Yes.’ They said yes to louder than 110,000. They said (it’s the way) the thing’s built. Plus, the fans are outstanding. So, we’re going to work on it.”
Meyer likes to put NFL things in the college football terms he’s used to. He recently said that every NFL game felt like playing “Alabama every week,” and it makes sense that he’d wonder how a 72,000-seat stadium could match the massive 100,000+ seat stadiums of college football.
He’ll find out for himself on Sunday when the 1-5 Jags face the 2-5 Seahawks at 4:05 p.m. ET.
