The college football world was rocked with heartbreaking news on Monday morning when the University of Virginia announced that three of the school’s current football players were killed in a mass shooting by a former Virginia Cavaliers football player. It was a horrible and senseless tragedy and the impacts aren’t limited to Virginia – the tragedy was felt all the way back in Wisconsin, as well.

One of the three Virginia players killed in the fatal shooting on Sunday night was former Wisconsin Badgers wide receiver Devin Chandler, who transferred to Virginia from Wisconsin ahead of this season after two years with the Badgers. As a result, Wisconsin canceled its media availability and workouts for the day.

“Media availability today was canceled due to the news of former UW WR Devin Chandler being killed in the shooting at the University of Virginia. Players were set to begin lifting when news broke and were sent home,” Wisconsin Badgers beat writer Colten Bartholomew said on Twitter.

The move will give their players proper time and space to grieve the loss of one of their former teammates. Chandler was killed alongside other Virginia football players D’Sean Perry and Lavel Davis Jr. The suspected shooter is former Virginia football player Christopher Darnell Jones, who is now in police custody.
