Unfortunately, Justyn Ross’s rookie season with the Kansas City Chiefs is over before it even truly got started. The Chiefs announced Monday that they were placing Ross on injured reserve before the season begins, which means he is now ineligible to return in 2022.

Ross signed with the Chiefs as an undrafted free agent and made a lot of noise in offseason workouts. Even quarterback Patrick Mahomes took notice of the young receiver and shouted him out following a pretty spectacular catch.

Ross was a standout at Clemson, with his best season coming in his freshman season in 2018 when he garnered 1,000 receiving yards and nine touchdowns. While he was certainly talented enough to play in the NFL, teams were scared off about drafting him as he was hampered throughout much of his time in college with injuries to his back and spine that almost cost him his playing career.

Those old injuries reared their ugly head this summer as Ross was recently seen in a walking boot before announcing that he had undergone another surgery to clean up a previous one.

Hopefully, Ross is able to use this year to fully heal and can achieve his NFL dreams in 2023.

Meanwhile, the Chiefs announced that they’ve signed offensive tackle David Steinmetz and offensive tackle Evin Ksiezarczyk to fill in spots in their roster heading into the season.
