The Green Bay Packers have gotten back on track after a very rough start to the season, thanks in large part to the play of Aaron Rodgers. Rodgers took a ton of heat following the season-opener over the offseason drama surrounding his relationship with the Packers as well as perceptions that his work ethic wasn’t up to the task.

Whatever happens this season, however, doesn’t answer the question of where Rodgers and the Packers go from here. Will they work it out and find a way to keep their star quarterback in the green and gold for the rest of his career or is this the final season where Rodgers calls Wisconsin home?

The people who might know the answer best are the people who have been in this exact situation before. Former Green Bay Packers’ great Brett Favre has already weighed in and thinks the Packers need to start listening to what their QB wants. Now, Joe Montana, who played most of his Hall of Fame career with the San Francisco 49ers before leaving to finish his career with the Kansas City Chiefs, has some thoughts on what might happen as well.

Montana was asked by PopCulture.com’s Brian Jones what he thinks might happen after this season and he wonders if Rodgers has already made up his mind no matter what happens.

“I think that’s all up to Green Bay, where he goes and himself. Maybe he’s reached the point sort of like Tom [Brady] did where he’d just had enough of whatever is going on there,” Montana told PopCulture. “I can’t imagine them trying to let him go. As long as he still plays like he played last weekend, he’ll be fine, and so will the Packers. But in today’s day and age, everybody’s moving around a little bit. How many quarterbacks change teams? You never saw that in the past. It may just become part of the game, just like any other position.”

Montana might be overstating that idea of quarterbacks moving around a bit. Many of the most elite quarterbacks usually end up getting pushed out or play for a second team (Montana, Favre, Peyton Manning, Kurt Warner, and Philip Rivers all come to mind). But it’s true that the odds are against Rodgers spending the rest of his career in Green Bay, even if they do work out the issue currently souring their relationship.
