Herschel Walker, the Republican Senate candidate in Georgia, weathered another bad headline over the holiday weekend when fundraising reports revealed his opponent, Democratic incumbent Sen. Raphael Warnock, has nearly three times the amount of campaign cash on hand.
Warnock posted nearly $30 million as of Nov. 16. Walker, by comparison, has nearly $10 million on hand heading into the campaign’s final weeks. Warnock has raised $52 million from Oct. 20 to Nov. 16 compared to Walker’s $21 million.
Walker and Warnock are engaged in the most brutal election of the 2022 midterm election cycle. The campaign turned particularly nasty in its closing days, and the new cycle has been no different. Walker in particular has already weathered several scandals.
Former presidents Barack Obama and Donald Trump have campaigned for their party’s respective candidates. Even Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James has weighed in on the race by endorsing Sen. Warnock.
Both sides spent more than $241 million combined before the Nov. 8 election. Per state law, Walker and Warnock advanced to a head-to-head runoff after neither candidate earned the 50 percent of the vote required to win the election outright.
Georgia voters head to the polls for the special Senate runoff election on Dec. 6. Democrats have already retained control of the Senate in 2023.
