It has been a good month for Jeff Bezos, Following the recent acquisition of Whole Foods, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos has ascended to the rank of World’s Richest Person. Bezos inched past Microsoft founder Bill Gates with a net worth of $90.9 billion, according to Bloomberg.

Don’t feel sorry for Gates, though. The man is still ridiculously wealthy beyond comprehension. Gates’ net worth is reported at $90.7 billion. The changing of the guard at the top of the mountain of incredibly rich people with more money than some third-world nations will become official at the end of the market day today, barring any unforeseen dramatic changes in the market over the next few hours. Gates has been labeled the world’s richest person since May 2013.

Another thing to keep in mind is that Gates’ net worth continues to increase as well, having gone up almost $10 billion in the past year. While Gates is increasing his net worth at a nice steady and incremental pace, Bezos has essentially tripled his net worth in the past two years, putting him on a much more rapid pace.

Amazon has taken great strides in expanding its commercial reach for consumers, and the company is not limited to doing business one way. In addition to pushing its Amazon Prime memberships and experimenting with drone deliveries and researching the possibility of blimp distribution centers, Amazon is also digging its heels in streaming content with original programming. Amazon’s cloud-web services have also expanded, contributing to the company’s revenue stream. And yes, Amazon is getting in the sports content game with Thursday Night Football this fall.

It’s been a quite a year for Bezos. After starting the year as the world’s fourth-richest person, Bezos has already surpassed Warren Buffett and Amancio Ortega on his climb to the top.

In related news, I’m expecting an Amazon delivery at my doorstep today. You’re welcome, Jeff.
